📚Healing the Gun Violence Epidemic: Ending Violence, Rebuilding Communities, and a Trauma Surgeon’s Vision for Restoring Hope by Selwyn D. Rogers, Jr., MD, MPH - In many countries, the rate of children who die from gunshot wounds approaches zero. But in the US, as of 2020, firearms related injuries surpassed motor vehicle collisions as the number one killer of children nationally. Dr. Rogers, a Harvard-trained trauma surgeon with a master’s degree in public health from Vanderbilt and more than 30 years of experience working on the front lines of America’s gun crisis, offers stories, research, and a compassionate analysis of the uniquely American problem of gun violence.📚
🤍Dr. Selwyn Rogers is founding director of the University of Chicago Medicine Trauma Center, a nationally recognized surgeon and public health expert, and an innovative and leading advocate for treating gun violence as a public health crisis. Born on the island of St. Thomas, Dr. Rogers earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Harvard and has practiced surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Temple University Medical Center in Philadelphia, University of Texas Medical Branch, and, since 2017, the University of Chicago Medicine. UChicago’s trauma center is the first in existence on Chicago’s South Side in nearly thirty years. Dr. Rogers founded it, hired and trained its staff, and leads it to date.
